Peruvian Wedding Fascinator

A few days ago, my friend Anna stopped by on the way to Austin to visit her daughter and family. She had her gorgeous dress with her that she will wear for her son’s wedding in Peru next month and it was a beautiful raspberry rose pink, with a rhinestone feature. She came to show it to me and to pick out the shape and feathers to make her a fascinator. She told me it has to travel in her backpack and that they will be holding the wedding up in the mountains of Peru. So she looked at feathers and fascinator base shapes and because she is very petite, we decided on the teardrop shape.

Although Peru is not one of the countries I have visited or lived in I do know that she chose a lovely color to fit in with the culture. Her concern was not to have too much black in the piece but liked the idea of a few black feathers, so I curled six of biot feathers and stripped pink coque feathers for more display without being over the top. She loved the flowers I made so I made one a bit smaller than I make for most of my fascinators so as not to overwhelm her face. I made the rhinestone stamens to fall in tune with the rhinestone accessory on her dress.

I first covered the base with a beautiful raspberry pink velvet fabric and used two shades of organza in the flower. Instead of everything being an exact match of pink color, the various pinks work well together and add more interest to the piece.

Anna’s hair style will be similar to this with the ends curled under and this style of fascinator suits very nicely. She can wear it back a bit, up higher or however she feels is right for her look.

The soft stripped coque feathers flow over the hair and fall gently against the hair. I am sure Anna will enjoy her spotlight as mother of the groom and will be appreciated by her husband and family in the outfit she chose for this special day. I wish them all much happiness.
