Wearable Art Jacket

Wearable Art Jacket

This is the last piece of Wearable Art that I am putting up for sale.  Due to my health situation, I have to raise emergency medical funds and it is necessary for me to part with some of my work.   I made this piece to teach a class on how to make flowers out of satin fabric and ribbon.  I added crystal beads in some flowers as stamens.  One of the things I like to do with my students is show them how you can use techniques to make beautiful clothes.  This one of a kind, long coat style jacket fits bust 34". It has been stored away from light, free from dust and dirt, so please excuse the creases.  To protect it until it is sold, it will go back in careful storage.

A detailed description and many photos showing every aspect of this piece are on this blog.

This piece would be wonderful for a second time around bride, or to attend a special event.  You can wear it with a skirt, or with soft flowing pants.  The colors are pastel shades with cream.

Desperate times call for desperate measures!  When the going gets tough, the tough gets going! Both of these sayings are where I am at this moment.  I started my millinery business due to health issues brought on from surgery in March 2010, that left me with major complications.  I paid cash for this surgery and do not have insurance.  I managed to put a bit aside in case of continuing medical emergencies, but I just used it to fix the transmission in my aged car.  So I made a decision to sell my one of a kind pieces to try to put money back in my account.

About this piece.  I have been a designer and teacher for most of my life and I love ribbon embroidery and flower making.  I cannot expect to get money back for the many, many hours I put into this piece and all I can hope for is that it will go to a very worthy collector who appreciates wearable art.  This piece must be dry cleaned due to the decorations.

Victorian Lace Waistcoat

Victorian Lace Waistcoat

Everything about this piece says Victorian.  Lavender and green colors, lace, findings, and ribbon embroidery.  On my blog are many photos with explanations of techniques and materials.

Forgive these photos.  My mannequin is a size 0, and these waistcoats have been folded and carefully stored away from dust, dirt and light.  If you purchase one, before wearing, it will need a light steaming to remove any wrinkles.

Velvet Garden Waistcoat

Velvet Garden Waistcoat

Every ribbon embroidered piece I made tells a story.  As a teacher of this art, I wanted to share with my students how you can diversify with fabrics and other media.  This piece I used black velvet on the front panels and embroidered a sampler garden of flowers.  A detailed explanation and more photos are on my blog.

Forgive these photos.  My mannequin is a size 0, and these waistcoats have been folded and carefully stored away from dust, dirt and light.  If you purchase one, before wearing, it will need a light steaming to remove any wrinkles.

Down on the Farm Waistcoat

Down on the Farm Waistcoat

When I made this piece, I wanted to share with my students how any purchased fabric could 'speak' volumes to a designer.  This one told me to embroider a field of flowers for the farm animals to pick.  I appliquéd a cow, pig, duck, rabbit, sheep and chicken  before I wove a colorful garden of embroidered flowers through them.  A detailed explanation and more photos are on my blog.

Forgive these photos.  My mannequin is a size 0, and these waistcoats have been folded and carefully stored away from dust, dirt and light.  If you purchase one, before wearing, it will need a light steaming to remove any wrinkles.

Rose Trellis Waistcoat

Rose Trellis Waistcoat

Rose Trellis When I made this piece, I was teaching my students how they could use their sewing machines as a backdrop for their ribbon embroidery.  I designed a trellis and hanging basket and taught them how to use a fine zigzag to make these designs.  When finished them, I hand embroidered many, many spider roses and rose buds, (too many to count) along with vines and leaves.

A detailed explanation and more photos are on my blog.

Crazy Quilt Waistcoat

Crazy Quilt Waistcoat

I taught my students how to do my method of crazy quilting so that they could use it as the groundwork for their embroidery.  Then I showed them that their sewing machines could add embroidery stitches to add more design to go with their hand work.  This one has so many details that I wrote them all on my blog to take up less space.

A detailed explanation and more photos are on my blog.

The Natural Garden Waistcoat

The Natural Garden Waistcoat

My inspiration with this piece was the fabric with natural colored flowers.  I also wanted to teach my students how they could couch over gold cord to make a vine that would change the design and add more detail  I hand embroidered so many French knots to form one tyoe of flower and nestled tiny glass beads among them to form flowers that would shine in the light.  Then I embroidered lazy daisies with silk ribbon and added gold beads in the centers.

Time for Tea Waistcoat

I have always been drawn to teapots and everything tea, due to my heritage and upbringing.  Even though I live in Texas and it is very hot in the summer, I drink tea the way others drink soda, only these days I drink green tea.  This piece was inspired by my love for these things and bringing ribbon embroidery into the mix, made this design complete.
